FAQS

The Franklin County Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) is made up of a majority of the Chartered Veteran Service Organizations in Franklin County.  All Chartered Veteran Service Organizations in Franklin County have been invited and encouraged to join the VAC.  Currently, our members include:

Franklin County Disabled American Veterans
Benton American Legion Post 280
Benton VFW Post 2671
Christopher American Legion Post 528
Sesser American Legion Post 560
Sesser VFW Post 4753
Thompsonville American Legion Post 1194
Zeigler American Legion Post 177

The core mission of our VAC is to help our County's Veterans and/or their spouses/dependents.  We will do this by assisting Veterans in filing the VA Disability Claims and other VA or state programs that they might be entitled to due to their service or circumstances.  We also can provide financial assistance to Franklin County Veterans and/or their spouses/dependents who have demonstrated a need for it.

Veteran Assistance Commissions have been available, in some capacity, in Illinois for over 100 years. The law which allows us to exist is 330 ILCS45 / Military Veterans Assistance Act.

The Franklin County Veterans Assistance Commission was funded by the Franklin County Board for 2024 and we are open for business!  Currently, our Superintendent, Liam Mungovan, has been certified from the VA and can process VA Disablility Claims for local Veterans.  He is also is available to process Financial Aid requests for Franklin County Veterans only.  Additionally, he is available to speak with all Veterans and/or their spouses/dependents regarding their benefits and how they should approach filing for VA Disability or other VA programs that they might be eligible for.
